Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the incident left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
