The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
