Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
